Organized by the World Surf League (WSL), this is a championship where there's no room for fear. TAG Heuer is the ideal partner to be the official timer of this competition held in seven stages.
Professionalism, daring and leading the way are values that the WSL and TAG Heuer both have in common. They don't crack under pressure, it brings out the best in them. Already in touch with the surfing world through young surfing prodigy Kai Lenny, TAG Heuer makes a full commitment by applying all its expertise as a timekeeper to the Big Wave Tour. Its philosophy #DontCrackUnderPressure is totally at one with the spirit of the WSL and has really made all the difference for this ground-breaking new partnership. Youth, enthusiasm, amazing experiences: long may the partnership flourish, and happy surfing! Kai means ocean in Hawaiian and this is where he is from, born on the island of Maui in 1992 and raised off its shore, in the giant barreling waves of Jaws and Hookipa. By the age of 4 he was up on his first board, and windsurfing by 6, stand-up surfing at 7 and kite surfing at 9. Mentored by the greatest Hawaiian watermen of the day, he learned to respect the ocean’s power and harnass it, barrel into it, and come out the other end a champion. What sets him apart is not just this boldness—to take on waves that other let slip past, but his complete openness to all challenge. Like when he took on Oracle USA, the $15 million dollar yacht, winner of America’s Cup, on a $1,500 kiteboard, in a race from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz Island. And almost won. What he has won is Six Stand Up World Tour Championships, and worldwide recognition for the relatively new discipline of stand-up. “My philosophy of life is live life to the fullest, have fun, never give up and be the best you can be.” Kai Lenny is a true pathbreaker, unafraid to break with convention and ride his own wave. Like TAG Heuer, he proves his mettle again, anew, each day, and never cracks under pressure.
